Leadership

Al Gore

Senior Advisor

Former U.S. Vice President and founder of The Climate Reality Project, Al Gore is a senior advisor to TSIP. The organization was incubated on his Caney Fork Farms in Tennessee, which continues to serve as a testing ground for new protocols, hardware, and research in climate-smart land management.

Kris Covey

Co-Founder & President

Kris leads TSIP's scientific and organizational strategy, bringing expertise in greenhouse gas fluxes and landscape-level climate solutions. As co-founder and Assistant Professor at Skidmore College, he developed systems for distributed, producer-led soil sampling that form the foundation of TSIP's approach.

Bruno Basso

Co-founder

Bruno is a Foundation Professor at Michigan State University and Fellow of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science. His research in agronomy and precision technologies underpins TSIP's modeling systems, including development of the Multi-Model Ensemble, the first open agroecological ensemble of its kind.

Jack Ivers

Chief Data and Technology Officer

Jack leads TSIP’s technology strategy, driving the development of software, systems, and digital tools that underpin the organization’s soil data infrastructure. With experience founding and advising mission-driven tech ventures, he brings deep expertise in product development, engineering, and scaling software platforms. He plays a key role in integrating TSIP’s models, user-facing tools, and internal systems to deliver robust and user-centric impact infrastructure.

Claire Lafave

Chief of Staff

Claire supports organizational strategy and execution and drives cross-functional alignment. Previously, she worked at Native, where she built partnerships and projects across the agricultural voluntary carbon market and scope 3 insetting landscape. She has endless interest in developing systems for supporting farmers and farmland. Claire earned her joint Master's degrees in Environmental Management (MEM) and MBA from Yale University.

Kelsey Jensen

Science Advisor

Kelsey works on EDF's Climate Innovation team within Science & Innovation, where she conducts research on emerging climate solutions and identifies opportunities for real-world impact. Before joining EDF, Kelsey served as Chief Operating Officer of TSIP, where she oversaw field research operations, managed large federal research grants, and oversaw partnerships with external partners across industries. Kelsey received her PhD in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from Cornell University with a concentration in soil biogeochemistry, and her BA in Chemistry and Environmental Studies from Colgate University.

Sonali Lamba

Strategic Advisor

Sonali oversees organizational development, strategy, and fundraising for TSIP. She manages technology and partnerships for large-scale field sampling and corporate data sharing campaigns, and teaches entrepreneurship and innovation as an Adjunct Lecturer at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.

Staff

Morgan McClure

Data Scientist

Morgan develops analytical tools that turn environmental data into actionable insights for land management and climate action. She builds systems for sampling design, geospatial analysis, and reporting dashboards, and contributes to development of TSIP's mobile and web applications.

Lowery Parker

Head of Grant Programs

Lowery is a political ecologist focused on racial and economic justice in food systems. With a PhD in Human Geography and Integrative Conservation, she manages TSIP's grant programs and leads new projects that advance data equity and support the mission of inclusive soil data infrastructure.

Dan Casarella

Program Manager

Dan coordinates TSIP's soil sampling programs, including student summer initiatives. He manages shipping, logistics, and partnerships with host organizations, ensuring smooth execution of sampling campaigns and practical training for emerging environmental scientists.

Karla Jareke

Postdoctoral Researcher & RINGS Lead

Karla integrates field-based research and modeling to understand how agricultural practices influence soil carbon. She collaborates with partners across sectors to address complex challenges in Earth system processes and advance soil science research. Her work includes aligning data and sampling methodologies across Northeastern grazing and silvopasture systems. Karla holds a PhD in Forest Ecosystems and Society from Oregon State University.
