Who We Are

TSIP is a nonprofit building soil data infrastructure to inform confident, science-based decisions.

Our secure database and tools turn agricultural data into trusted insights for farmers, researchers, and industry partners.

Our Mission

To establish confidence in agricultural impact claims by providing foundational data infrastructure accessible to all and free from commercial conflict.

Our Story

Founded at Caney Fork Farm in Tennessee in 2019, The Soil Inventory Project (TSIP) grew out of a recognition that soil’s potential as a climate solution was being held back by fractured data systems. Our co-founders, Dr. Kris Covey and Dr. Bruno Basso, united expertise in soil science, modeling, and data infrastructure to launch TSIP.

Since then, we’ve become a national nonprofit addressing the full breadth of agricultural outcomes—from yield and productivity to water retention and biodiversity. We work with farmers, researchers, and partners to provide trusted soil data and insights that inform decisions, drive investment, and strengthen resilience. Al Gore, former U.S. Vice President and climate leader, serves as Senior Advisor to TSIP.

Our Core Values

Scientific integrity

As a pre-competitive nonprofit, we deliver unbiased results that all stakeholders can rely on. Not every agricultural scenario presents a perfect win-win, and we won't pretend otherwise.

Foundational impact

We build public infrastructure for the entire agricultural landscape, not single-use tools.

Accessibility

We make powerful tools available to all members of the agricultural community.

Hope

We acknowledge that we face complex challenges, yet we act believing positive change is possible.

Dynamic learning

We seek to be a source of clear, actionable information, continually developed through ongoing learning with our partners.

Ready to collaborate?

We partner with farmers, researchers, funders, and organizations across the agricultural supply chain to expand access to trusted soil data.
